Neat concept, good presentation and acted very well.

Cecilia, just like any other poor person, tries to forget her miserable real life with films. She sees some hope in a fictional character. But has to choose between utterly romantic and caring fiction and imperfect reality.

Reality is harsh, so she turns to fiction and it is illusive as well.

Movie in a movie is an interesting concept.

I loved this.
Vintage Woody Allen making social commentary before he decided to spell it out for every body (aka-- starring in his own movies or using blunt dialogue through his characters).

Beautiful and sad. I love how he used the setting of the Great Depression and PTSD to detail the end of the "Great War" and it's effects on everyday citizens and how they turned to cinema to escape.
I think it's important that he plays up the idea that people have never really "left" the movie house and just made movies more and more escapist through the ages. Interesting, when you really think about it.

A good story poorly written, poorly acted and not funny.

One of Woody Allen's best, I agree (with HarrietZ), and ditto for Mia Farrow - who seems born for this whimsical part. A good imaginative fantasy premise drives this, and it runs just long enough to remain vital throughout. Recommended.

One of Woody's best. A delightful, highly imaginative reflection on the impact of the movies on people's dreams, of the great difference between the movies and reality, and other fascinating matters. Lots to think about, while enjoying the excellent acting of Mia Farrow, Jeff Daniels and the rest of the cast. Top notch.
