Somewhat dated in references, but very relevant in moral and ethical issues.
I love how Peter Dickinson develops a strong female protagonist who we can believe in. His writing style for this book is perfect, just enough detail to support the story and enough action to keep the story moving forward. It's a good book! Perhaps some would find this disturbing or depressing commentary on humanity but the protagonist is a believable and strong character. The book has a good sense of adventure, makes you question "where are we (humanity) going?" It's also very good at instilling the idea that one person can make a difference. Dickinson writes a good sci-fi without making it overly complicated and within the realm of the possible. The simplicity really adds to the story as in the writing style suits the story; something over-written with this plot would make it barely believable and more horrific than hopeful.
