Add a Comment“Rebelle” aka “War Witch” portrays Komona, a teen-age African girl kidnapped and forced to join an insurgent armed force. When Komona survives a shoot-out from an army ambush, she is deemed by the insurgent commander to be a “War Witch,” in other words, a person with almost magical powers. The film includes the topic of ghosts, not those of Western cartoons or Western gore flicks, but more on the level of Shakespeare or Japanese classic films. These types of ghosts deal with the demand that Komona respect her ancestral and cultural heritage.
A somber look at the victims made to partake in wars at very young ages and how they "coped".
a hypnotic film about innocence lost and regained with probably the best performance by an actress in 2012. Rachel Mwanza is truly amazing and anchors this brutal story with her phenomenal heart and talent.
