Add a CommentFrom well-known animals like emperor penguins and Siberian tigers to species you may never have heard of (such as megapodes or sifakas), this latest from the duo that created the Caldecott Honor-winning What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? explores the first 24 hours of 22 different species. Many baby animals, like cats, are helpless when newborn, but others - such as wildebeests and wood ducks - are remarkably capable from the start. Written simply and illustrated with Jenkins' signature cut-paper collages, My First Day is sure to fascinate young animal lovers. March 2013 Picture books newsletter.
It's a great book that outlines in very simple language and illustratrions what various animals are able to do on their first day of life, from the polar bear to the exotic tapir, blue wildebeest and kiwi. The last few pages contain more detailed information on each of the animals.
Good one on one or for 1st grade and up ST. JH
