Add a CommentI'm a sucker for anything from Tim Burton. He's an eccentric savant, and I'm very fond of his macabre flavor. This one's not his best; the script is a bit weak, but it's enjoyable. And I'm of an age that I can appreciate the '70s references, too, unlike, perhaps, some younger whippersnappers... (Beautiful Challenger, btw. Or was it a Barracuda?) Great cast, (mostly female, and all gorgeous) with Burton's usual "go-to" twosome -- his ladyfriend Helena Bonham Carter, and Johnny Depp. Both excellent, as usual. Michelle Pfeiffer is still hot at 54, and even a cameo from 90 year old horror-meister Christopher Lee. Altogether a fun flick. Not mindblowing, but not bad.
I went in to it thinking this movie was going to be horrible but I rented it for my dad who watched the show with his mom when he was a kid and I thought it was actually pretty good. The ending was great I don't know what people were expecting from a movie based on an old soap opera but it was fairly enjoyable.
Do you remember when Tim Burton made good movies? I barely do because it was so long ago
It's a Johnny Depp movie - should i say more??? it's got great humour and very entertaining..... and the soundtrack will bring back alot of memories.......
Reviews led me to believe that this movie was a dud but since I watched the original series I had to see what Burton/Depp had done with it. The reviewers are wrong. I doubt they lived through the first after-school series, which frankly went on too long and seriously dragged towards the middle. Here the myth of Barnabus and the Collins family has a beginning, middle and end, (of sorts.) A enjoyable romp with Depp making a better Barnabus than Fried.
This film has a funny conceit, a vampire comes back to life after being locked up in a box for 200 years and tries to reacclimate himself into modern society. But, the beginning which starts out promisingly segues into a typical Hollywood movie. Johnny Depp gives a fun, campy performance as Barnabus Collins and it's nice to Michelle Pfeifer again, and the Maine locales were nice to see.
Sound and Very well done DVD sci-fi movie. I would recommend this movie for all to see. Well worth the price of admission to any theater.
The story is not the greatest but there is just something fascinating and unique about Tim Burton’s filmmaking.
Lots of fun moments, but if you're looking for anything that pays homage to the TV show, you're going to be out of luck. Not too bad, though, as long as you don't analyze it much---particularly the ending.
Definitely not Depps nor Greens best. Could have been much better, either more scary or funnier. Not as good as I had hoped !!
