Judge Raymond Fogletree just became number five. His body was found in the basement of a lakeside cabin he had built himself and frequently used on weekends. When he did not show up for a trial on Monday morning, his law clerks panicked, called the FBI, and in due course the agents found the crime scene. There was no forced entry, no struggle, just two dead bodies, Judge Fogletree and his young secretary. I did not know Judge Fogletree, but I know who killed him, and why. I am a lawyer, and I am in prison. It's a long story.

Add a CommentAnother fun Grisham of the couldn't put it down variety. Enjoyable read with a bit of a twist since the "good guy" is a convict and plans to outwit the authorities. Great beach read.
I thought it was ok but nothing special. I would not want to pay to buy this book - just an average read.
I found the plot too convoluted in the end. Not the best John Grisham
Great read. Loved the characters and story.
very good. lawyer in jail knows who killed the judge. he islet out after telling them who the killer was and goesm into hiding wnder an assumed identity.
Grisham is fun and engaging even when he phones it in. Doesn't touch the Rainmaker, but nothing does.
Have to hand it to Grisham. Some may sneer, but he's nailed it again with a story about vengeance by a wrongly convicted man. Classify this in the cannot put it down category.
An alright book for an uncomplicated read. I wasn't sure that I liked the main character and there was an unease about the way the plot seem to breeze thro without any issues. But, then the author's final comment at the end of the book seems to sum it up - it really wrote it as a lark, with little or no research into it.
I could not put this book down. The writing is excellent, as expected. The story is complex and no matter how many Grisham novels you've read, there is no way you will figure out how this story will end...many twists and turns, excellent plot, characters are well developed and interesting...a must read for any Grisham fan!
Great story... kept me wanting more all the way through. John Grisham does not disappoint and if you're a fan of his writing, you will want to read this one!
