One of the few remakes that is better than, if not as good as, the original.

A fun remake by the Coen brothers. It's a bit of a hodgepodge though. While at one time using precise dialogue and story lines at many points, it also omits important pieces from the original and completely re-works the end which for fans of John Wayne is somewhat unforgivable if you are familiar with the Rooster Cogburn character. To take such a liberty, really makes it a different story. I also found the girl's performance lacking when compared to Kim Darby from the original. Still, a fun film for sure.

This girl was such a good Mattie - much better than the older version's Mattie (that girl was just annoying). Matt Damon did an excellent job playing the prideful yet silly Laboeuf. But I have to stay loyal to John Wayne's Rooster. Bridges was a very good actor but Wayne had more spunk! I did not like the ending - though it held true to the book. Wayne's version had such a touching end to it.

It was OK. I enjoyed Mattie's character and the rest of the cast did a good job. The ending was anti-climactic.

In “True Grit” the chase is central to the plot but when this comes to an end, it is quite anticlimactic. It is perhaps for this reason that I wish Brolin would have had a greater part in the movie. Overall, I enjoyed the film. The character of Mattie, in particular, reminded me of Jodie Fosters’ (a favorite of mine) early roles.

True Grit ---- (DVD - 2011 Western/Cowboy) ---- As this show is an un-needed Redux! ---- Lots of gruff talk witout a real substance as the Original Movie. The final battle and rescue was better: the first version/film had more drama in the end. ---- Some films should just be left alone!! ---- (Maybe, Mr. Bridges could'nt jump a fence) Enjoy! ---- RichardPaul (finished 4-13)

fine acting by Bridges and the young lady - damon a lot more likable than bourne character - barry pepper gives fine performance - james brolin gives preview of character in "no country for old men" and one of his best performances - very realistic to degree for history buffs - Highly recommended!

Good movie but way over-hyped. Jeff Bridges did a good job but pretty much was a combination of past characters "The Dude" and "Bad Blake". The original was much better, much grittier.

Ned - You answer me Rooster! I will kill this girl. You know I will do it! Rooster - The girl means nothing to me - she's a runaway from Arkansas. Ned- That is all very well. Do you advise that I kill her? Rooster - Do what you think is best, Ned. Wayne's version: LaBeouf - What are you doing? Rooster - back hands LaBeouf Gotta love John Wayne's blase when delving out whacks of justice.

Lucky Ned Pepper: "What is your intention Rooster? You think one on four is a dogfall?" Rooster Cogburn: "I mean to kill you in one minute, Ned. Or see you hanged in Fort Smith at Judge Parker's convenience. Which will you have?" Lucky Ned Pepper: "I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man!" Rooster Cogburn: "Fill your hand you son-of-a-bitch!"
