127 Hours is the gruesome depiction of a real life survival story. Aron Ralston was hiking and climbing in remote Utah canyons when he fell and became trapped by a large falling rock. For the next five days Aron was able to survive and ultimately escape by cutting off part of his arm. This movie is a realistic accounting of Aron's bravery and survival but it is not for the weak of heart.

An ambitious movie based on an amazing survival story. Very much worth watching for both the originality of the film and the performance of the lead actor.

This is a lame movie. I always wondered how they could make a movie about this and the truth is they can’t. Very boring and very long and drawn out. You can watch the first 10 minutes, the middle 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes. Don’t waste your time with this one.

Before this film I only knew James Franco as Harry Osborne from the Sam Raimi 'Spider-Man' movies, I never had a second thought about him until I saw the amazing trailer for this amazing movie, what fascinated me so much about the film was this, if throughout the majority of the film, James Franco will literally be between a rock and a hard place, then he has to keep the audience engaged from beginning to end, and not only did Franco do this well, he did it REALLY well. In a way this movie reminds me of Gus Van Sant's 'Gerry', which is about to two poor saps played by Matt Damon and Casey Affleck who get lost in the desert, what it does right is show us the complete hopelessness of their situation and the complete desolation of their location, but what it doesn't do well is give our two characters any personality whatsoever, so we never feel sympathetic to their plight. Danny Boyle with '127 Hours', understands that you need both character and environment to make a story like this work. Franco's performance as the somewhat arrogant adrenaline junkie Aron Ralston is so magnetic and heartfelt that Iwas convinced he was real. I wouldn't say this film changed my life, but it certqainly gave a fresh outlook and made me feel grateful for what I have.

i heard that when james franco was doing the scene about cutting his arm, he litery stayed there in the rock for a full day just so he could be really tired and fatigue like in the real story. Bravo. A little boring but hey, james franco made up for it

Wow. What an incredible true story. And what a great performance by James Franco. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as an actor. To carry an entire movie by himself, as the lone actor, with such depth of emotion and for it to feel so real. Wow. Really fantastic job! When he was cutting off his arm, it was excruciating for me to watch. I kept putting my hands over my mouth and felt like looking away but I couldn't. The movie at times was a little boring, and I think they could have done a little more with the flashbacks. But James Franco is so good that it kept me watching. Glad Aron survived and now leaves notes to let people know where he's going.

Entertaining movie I think. Especially since it's based on a true life experience. I've read the book too but the movie is much better. One thing the movie doesn't show is how much he suffered after he cut off his arm while convalescing. Definitely recommended.

Liked this movie, but didn't. I always have a difficult time watching a director try to bring to the screen, someone's hallucinations, which was a large part of the movie. Not to mention, the visually "artistic" manner in which drinking water and/or urine is filmed. Interesting, and worth watching, but at certain times, a bit distracting.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: There's alot of gore! I remember near the end, me and my friends looked away, and were screaming! We weren't afraid of the horror movies we watched, but that one scene was very gory!
