This is a horrifying example of what will happen to freshwater supplies in B.C. if Fracking expands as intended . The so-called "clean" Natural Gas is a MYTH, most particularily in this method of extraction. This is without recognizing the large amounts of coal burnt in the processing. "Yes, fracturing the shale deposits, so trapped gas escapes into the water aquifer, while injecting(see below) toxic and in many cases unregistered chemicals to flow out of the ground for thousands of years is a GOOD idea. As compensation, we will deliver bottled water to your rural home, while we continue to operate in the area; until we are finished, at which point it will be unaffordable, then you'll have to pay-FOREVER!"

This eye opening well made documentary by first time filmmaker Josh Fox exposes the completely legal and absolutely criminal acts of 'Big Oil' and the loopholes they take advantage of. These environmental 'rapists' avoid any accountability for poisoning the air and the groundwater as they drill for natural gas (and profits) at an ever expanding and alarming rate. There is virtually no overseeing regulatory commission, due to budget cuts and their exemption of responsibility to the Clean Water Act. I've taken notice recently (since viewing this film) of 'Conoco' TV commercials boasting how 'clean' natural gas is. 'Naturally', no mention of the repercussions. Disgusting. Disturbing. Despicable. Deplorable. Distressing. Disastrous. Depressing. No happy ending here. Well done, Mr. Fox. FIVE STARS.

Excellent. Horrifying. These poor working people having the oil and gas companies pollute their air and water Children, animals all suffering. Just for greedy businesspeople. Wiling to lie outright that fracking does not cause contamination of ground water nor ill health effects. And Dick Cheney exempted both oil and gas companies from the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts so the companies don't even have to say what toxic chemicals they are using to sicken people. Their faucets can be lit on fire with a match because their water is so polluted.

One of the best documentaries of 2010. A Must See! The US tried energy reform under Bush and it continues under Obama. But what are the consequences of a natural gas economy? This film explores it pretty thoroughly. Natural gas is not environmentally safe, as much as Republicans and other industry apologists would like us to believe. But what's astounding is that there hasn't been any attempt to make natural gas extraction even remotely environmentally friendly.

Nice documentary. Kind of makes you very mad at the Republicans.

Please view this film and then tell everyone you know to view it. The oil companies drilling for natural gas using a technique call fracking (short for hydralic fracturing of the earth to release the gas) are commiting crimes against us all - but it is "legal." Actually this is an enjoyable peice of film-making that gently lets you in on the crime as Josh tours the areas where this drilling has been done, lighting homeowners tap water on fire, and documenting the hideous destruction of land we all own and the lives of those who live near these wells. Only the fact that this type of drilling is endangering the water supply for NYC and Philly might bring it home to politicians that this must be stopped. It also might take a feature film starring Julia Roberts to get the rest of us to insist on the cessation of the drilling of wells that endanger all our nation's watersheds. Oh, and finance and start using actual clean sources of energy, now!

I was finally able to watch “Gasland” last night and I have to say this film really deserves your viewing time. The filmmaker's technique is low-key and simple, but the story he tells of the dangers of natural gas drilling is personal and hits very hard. This should be required viewing for every elected official. To ignore this issue is to bankrupt our future, our health and our environment.

Good - Gasland (2010) [Documentary] 107 min. Highly interesting and disturbing film about the natural gas industry in the U.S. and its effect on drinking water and air quality. I kept shaking my head on how the mighty buck could motivate an individual or group of individuals in this case to blatantly poison people's drinking water for the sole purpose of wealth. And did you know that gas and oil companies are exempt from the clean air and water bill passed in the U.S. It's a crime!!!

This is really scary stuff - and should be required viewing in all high schools and universities courses dealing with society and/or the environment. It is truly deserving of its Academy Award nomination, this year, and may very well have won - if it's significance hadn't been outshined by the Academy's eventual winner, INSIDE JOB - dealing with the even greater disaster (in some people's minds, it seems) about the global financial meltdown of 2008.
