You really don't get much more suspense than Hitchcock and this is arguably his best. Yes it's dated, no, in this day of CGI and intense psychological horror it doesn't watch well. But you have to remember when it came out. In 1960 (which was far far before my time by the way) horror wasn't about special effects. it was solely story driven and this movie when you look at it that way, was terrifying. By now most people know the big secret scares, but even knowing them, i think you will find it enjoyable.

When Psycho came out, it was front page stories of the murder scene in the movie. Everyone was talking about it on television, radio and print media. So is it as controversial as it was thought to be? I say it is just a great movie by one of the masters of movie makers.
"Hitchcock" the movie made more recently gives all the background on the production of the movie "Psycho".
Watch the original first and then if your curious, take a look at the background of the movie.

One of the definitive Hitchcock Masterpieces and also the film that defined a new component of the horror genre. PSYCHO grabs at you and doesnt let go for the duration. Anthony Perkins gives his career defining performance as the nervous, yet introverted and eventual psychotic Norman Bates. This movie also made many a person wary of taking a shower again, however I wont give anything away. Seeing is believing. PSYCHO is a film of strong impact that will stay with you.

Back when horror films were more than just jump scares, there was a little-known film called PSYCHO. This film is intriguing. It's a shame if the twist has been ruined for you or that famous scene (you know the one). I loved it when I watched it the first time, not knowing anything, and I greatly enjoyed it. This film is more than just one scene and you have to applaud the actor Anthony Perkins for his pitch-perfect nuanced performance. I'd definitely recommend it, at least for one screening, and all the better if you know nothing about it going in!

Considered one of the Top 10 classic 'English' movies (my researched #8). The perfect horror movie, and the only horror film in the top 60+ films; the next film being "Jaws" at #69. See my GerryD Lists for other classic movies.

If you are interested we talked about this movie at the Carlingwood Library Film Club. We discuss three movies a month and we meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the Month.

The best Alfred Hitchcock movie ever made. My heart pounded when Norman Bates as Mother came on the scene. Scary fun!

Frightening or Intense Scenes: This film contains a single naked body so blurred that it can scarcely be considered nudity. There are no cuss words and the "violence" is not violent. Anticipation, music, and shadows on the wall are where the horror comes from, but for some that'll be terrifying enough.
