Add a CommentAn alright love story which seems a lot like "When Harry met Sally"
I remember hearing about how good this was, This time period produced alot of "classics" that are really unwatchable. I think this is watchable it's just boring. Hey maybe I will wash it down with some ridiculous Good Morning Vietnam. See what I mean?
Typical sudsy Meg Ryan fare (this time with stalking and long-distance fantasizing). SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE is based on the romantic classic AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER and all I can say is thank goodness for Rob Reiner and Tom Hanks (and even Rosie O'Donnell) for inserting some humour in this alleged comedy. Unfortunately, not one of Nora Ephron's best -- such a shame because that late great was a skilled storyteller and a funny, classy lady. In the end, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE is mediocre and a lazy watch, but there is some fun to be dragged out of it. I recommend at least one watch over your lifetime -- just to see what all the fuss is about. And this film is not... uh, how would you say ... "magic".
This 20-year old romatic comedy is still one of the best on this subject. It is more like a fairy-tale, though, as in the real world the story most likely cannot take shape. The final scene at the top of the Empire State Building may demand a tissue or two for some. Great acting by the two lead actors, ably assisted by the boy who played Tom Hank's 8-year old son. Watching it with your lover/spouse will get you brownie points.
Classic romantic movie.
