“The Secret World of Arrietty,” is a Japanese animation produced by Hayao Mazaki and directed by Hirosama Yonebayashi. There is an English dubbed version which is more convenient for us to watch so we don’t have to read the subtitles. But both versions have the same story line. “The Secret World of Arriety,” has a very touching story betweentwo different living creatures in their world. Shawn is a human, while Arrietty is a tiny being. Arrietty lives inside the canal of Shawn’s house but Arrietty likes to take adventures into the big world. When Shawn moves into the house, he sees something moving in their garden that’s really small but didn’t seem like a bug to him. He discovers Arrietty. Arrietty wasn’t really scared of him but his parents always tell her to be careful of humans. Her parents always tell her about their relatives being killed by the humans or eaten by their cat and injured by cockroaches, but Arrietty is a girl full of adventure. When Arrietty’s family is in danger because of Shawn’s nurse, their friendship, grown in a short period of time, shows that no matter the size, type, or form, everyone needs love. Shawn shows loyalty to his one and only friend Arrietty and even though it hurts for him to let her leave, he had to let go of her to make her happy. In my opinion, I love Japanese animation because they have really good story lines. “The Secret World of Arrietty,” is one of those animations. I like how it doesn’t just run on about one happening and make it a huge deal throughout the whole movie because some movies tend to do that. I also love how even though it has a serious story, they still add scenes and characters that make the story humorous. At first, there really aren’t any antagonists in the story but as the story goes on the antagonist is revealed. I love everything about the movie except for one thing, the ending. For stories like this, I think there should be a really good ending or at least a continuation like a part 2 or 1-2 years later. It made me really sad at the end because I felt like it was lacking. “There was nothing that happened after that? Does Shawn die? Do Arrietty and her family survive?” those are all the questions I had to ask myself so I felt like the end didn’t tie up all the loose ends. But aside from the end, I loved everything. I recommend for all of you to watch it! It’s a very touching movie!

I cried so hard when he explained to Arrietty about how everyone has to die at some point or another, and he wasn't talking about the Borrowers, but rather about himself and his heart condition.

Really want to watch it :)

When will this title become available to put on hold?

Studio Ghibli does it again! The encounters between Arietty, a tiny person living beneath the floorboards of a house, and Shun, a boy staying in the house before his risky heart operation, are beautiful and eerie. They convey the sense of meeting the unknown.

I remember reading The Borrowers by Mary Norton as a kid so I was really excited to see this movie. I thought the movie was a bit slow. I would recommend the book rather than the movie.

Arrietty, a tiny but tenacious 14-year-old, lives with her parents in the recesses of a suburban garden home, unbeknownst to the homeowner and her housekeeper. Like all little people, Arrietty remains hidden from view, except during occasional covert ventures beyond the floorboards to "borrow" scrap supplies like sugar cubes from her human hosts. But when 12-year-old Shou, a human boy who comes to stay in the home, discovers his mysterious housemate one evening, a secret friendship blossoms. If discovered, their relationship could drive Arrietty's family from the home and straight into danger. (From MyAnimeList.net)
