In a case that spans 20 years, Harry Bosch links the bullet from a recent crime to a file from 1992, the killing of a young female photographer during the L.A. riots. Harry originally investigated the murder, but it was then handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved. Now Bosch's ballistics match indicates that her death was not random violence, but something more personal, and connected to a deeper intrigue. Like an investigator combing through the wreckage after a plane crash, Bosch searches for the 'black box,' the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together.

I have been following this series for years. He is the same ol' Bosch but I am not sure that Michael Connelly is really in to him any more.
Harry Bosch delivers! Another page turner by Connelly!
One of the best of an amazing list of books from Michael Connelly
Not his best book, but if you're a fan of Harry Bosch you won't be disappointed.
My favourite kind of Michael Connelly book, a Harry Bosch LAPD procedural. This wasn't the best of the run but it didn't disappoint.
Not up to his usual standard. Good plot, though a bit transparent, but the characters were wooden and the dialogue unconvincing. It read like it was written in a hurry and to a formula. If this had been the first MC novel I read, I'm not sure I'd have read another.
I've found my only disappointment with reading this book was that I went through it so quickly that I am now in "Connelly withdrawal." But, seriously, if you are a MC fan and a fan of Harry Bosch, this will not disappoint. We see further development of the serial characters from the rest of the series, as well as some new interesting ones. It seems that "The Gods of Guilt" will be coming out in 2013, so Harry will live on. It's a cliche, but I couldn't put it down and read it in two sittings(two very late night sittings). Enjoy
Best read in sequence, these books never disappoint which is amazing when you consider there's more than a dozen of them. Some you will like more than others due to characters or plot lines. And people have come and gone from Harry's life. But Connelly writes Bosch so consistently with not one discordant word or action. Believe me, his legion of fans would notice. This one is an engrossing murder mystery concerning a 20 year old cold case from the Rodney King riots in LA. If that's not challenging enough, Harry also has to deal with a boss set on getting rid of him, his girlfriend and trying to be a good father to his 16 year old daughter. Good read.
Los Angeles Police Department Open – Unsolved Unit Detective Harry Bosch is back in this thriller with loads of twists and turns. Twenty years prior, during the 1992 Los Angeles race riots, foreign journalist Anneke Jesperson was found dead in an alley with an execution-style gunshot wound to the head. Detective Bosch and his partner were called out to the crime scene but due to the mass murders over that three day period they were unable to spend any substantial time trying to solve and clear the case. Now, with the twentieth anniversary of the riots looming, the political powers in LA have given the mandate to the Open – Unsolved to clean up and solve as many of the riot cases as possible. Of course Detective Harry Bosch is thrilled to get another crack at the case, as it’s always haunted him, the vision of the single blonde woman dead against a fence in an alley. As usual, Detective Bosch calls in a bunch of favors and butts heads with every command superior along the way during his mission to clear the twenty-year-old case. Evidence is thin and memories are vague so much of the work relies on gut, instinct and experience. But this time, while Detective Bosch is investigating his case, there are others in the department investigating him…. Reviewed by DH
