Item Details

"Don" Vito Corleone is the head of a New York mafia 'family.' His beloved son Michael has just come home from the war, but does not intend to become part of his father's business. Not given a choice, the business of the family is just like the head of the family, kind and benevolent to those who give respect, but gives in to ruthless violence whenever anything stands against the good of the family. An up and coming rival of the Corleone family wants to start selling drugs in New York, and needs the Don's influence to further his plan. A clash of old world values and the new ways will exact a terrible price, especially from Michael.

The film that launched a thousand cliches, yet completely worthy of its towering reputation. Brando and Pacino in their greatest roles as the embodiment of all American evil.

Man, what a movie! A classic. You should also see part-two as the family moves into Las Vegas in a big way.

One of the greatest films of American cinema: all events are described clearly and all the characters have compatible motivations.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance.

Brando was a MASSIVE talent. The consummate mafioso patriarch. A thrice Oscar winning masterpiece in '72... Best Picture; Best Actor (Brando); and Best Adapted Screenplay for Puzo and Coppola. I think Pacino should've won Best Supporting Actor -- he was nominated with Caan and Duvall. Ranked as the second greatest film in American cinema (behind Citizen Kane) by the American Film Institute. Deservedly so. A timeless, outstanding piece. FIVE STARS.

It took me so long to watch this movie because I thought it'd be really violent and I don't like that. But actually it was a nice surprise!. It's an excellent movie, just the right amount of violence needed, when the story required it. Great story, all characters very real, the actors performances great. As good as it can get!

Its the Godfather, what more does one have to say? Great story, dialogue and characters.
"Leave the gun. Take the cannoli." "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes." "It's not personal... It's strictly business"

Great actors, superb direction, thrilling plot. Just an advise: if you want to watch it to learn Italian, this is not the movie for you. The characters speak in an Anglo-Sicilian language, not in Italian.

Don Corleone: My wife is crying upstairs. I hear cars coming to the house. Consigliore of mine, I think it's time you told your Don what everyone seems to know.

Tom Hagen: I didn't tell Mama anything. I was just about to come up and wake you so that I could tell you.

Don Corleone: But you needed a drink first.
And now you've had your drink.

Tom Hagen: They shot Sonny on the causeway. He's dead

MICHAEL: ‘Well, when Johnny was first starting out, he was signed to this personal service contract; with a big band leader. And as his career got better and better, he wanted to get out of it. Now, Johnny is my father's godson. And my father went to see this band leader, and he offered him $10,000 to let Johnny go. But the band leader said no. So the next day, my father went to see him; only this time with Luca Brasi. And within an hour, he signed a release, for a certified check for $1,000.’ KAY: ‘How'd he do that?’ MICHAEL: ‘My father made him an offer he couldn't refuse.’ KAY : ‘What was that?’ MICHAEL:‘Luca Brasi held a gun to his head, and my father assured him that either his brains -- or his signature -- would be on the contract. That's a true story. That's my family, Kay. It's not me.’

Don Corleone, I am honored and grateful that you have invited me to your home on the wedding day of your daughter. And may their first child be a masculine child...
